Savannah Airport to Tybee Island: $60 Flat, Door to Door

The Short Answer, Right Up Front

You land at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport — SAV, on your boarding pass — and all you really want is the beach. So here is the whole answer before the long version: with Live Oak Airport Taxi, the ride from Savannah airport to Tybee Island is a $60 flat fare, door to door. It is about 25 miles, usually 30 to 40 minutes, and the ride back to the airport costs the same $60. The price you see is the price you pay. No meter ticking in traffic. No surge price because the sun came out. No math at the curb while you are holding a suitcase and a melting iced coffee. You book it, you land, I am waiting, and the vacation starts on the drive instead of after it. That is the pitch, and honestly, that is also just the facts.

How the Pickup Works, Step by Step

Here is exactly what happens, because plain steps beat surprises. You book your ride in advance and give me your flight number. I track that flight, so if it runs late, your pickup moves with it — your price does not. When you land, grab your bags at baggage claim and walk out to the commercial curb outside baggage claim, on the lower arrivals level by door D2, right across the sidewalk from the baggage-claim signs for the airline you flew in on. I text you when I am curbside. Then it is bags in, beach playlist on, and straight out US-80 East to your door on Tybee — North Beach or South Beach, the pier, the lighthouse end, a vacation rental or a hotel. No shuttle stops. No sharing the car with strangers. Just your group, up to 4 passengers in a standard passenger car, and one local driver who has made this run more times than he can count.

Why People Book This Run Instead of Winging It

Could you wing it? Sure. Let me be honest about how that goes. A meter cab to Tybee lands around $53 before tip on a clean run — and the meter keeps counting through every slowdown, and there is exactly one road on and off that island. Rideshare prices jump on sunny Saturdays when half of Savannah heads for the same beach, and drivers can see it is a long run out before they accept it. There is no city bus to Tybee. None at all. And renting a car means paying the daily rate plus hunting for beach parking while your ice melts in the trunk. People book the flat fare because it deletes the whole problem: the number is known before you get on the plane, the driver is booked and watching your flight, and if traffic on the island road is slow, that is my problem, not your meter. I laid out the full option-by-option math in my guide to what every airport option actually costs, if you want the receipts.

One Road On, One Road Off — and a Fort in the Middle

The drive itself is half the fun, and I am not just saying that because I am the driver. US-80 East rolls out of Savannah into miles of salt marsh — golden grass, winding creeks, and more birds than I have names for. About halfway out, off to the right on Cockspur Island, sits Fort Pulaski, the brick fort where rifled cannons changed warfare in April 1862 in about 30 hours. I wrote a whole post about that drive — Driving Through History: Tybee Island Road — because I cannot help myself. One honest warning, though: one road on and off the island means beach traffic is real on holiday weekends and perfect-weather Saturdays. Booking ahead does not clear the road, but it does mean your ride is locked in, your driver knows the timing, and nobody is standing at the airport curb refreshing an app while traffic builds. That counts for more than people think.

The Ride Back Is the One Everybody Forgets

Every week I meet somebody who planned the trip to Tybee down to the beach umbrella — and never booked the ride back. Then the last morning turns into a scramble: an early flight, a quiet island, and not many cars around. The fix is easy. Book the return when you book the arrival. Same $60 flat fare, same deal in reverse: I pick you up at your Tybee address at the time we set, and you go straight to the terminal at SAV with time to spare. Vacation brain is a real thing, and it is wonderful — let it be wonderful all the way home. Set both rides before you pack, and the only decision left on your last morning is whether to take one more walk on the beach. My vote is always yes, by the way. Just make it a short one if your flight is at dawn.

The Fine Print, Said Plainly

Plain talk is the brand, so here is all of it. The car is a standard passenger car and the max is 4 passengers — that is the whole fleet, on purpose. We do not provide child seats, so if your little one needs one, bring your own and I will give you time to get it set. Cancellations are a full refund up to 24 hours before your pickup; same-day cancellations are not refundable, because that spot on my calendar was held for you and there is no time to fill it. Your fare is fixed when you book — flight delays never change it — and you can pay ahead or pay your driver. Anything else you are wondering about, from late-night pickups to luggage, lives on the FAQ page, written in the same plain English as the rest of this site.

Book It Before You Pack

So that is the beach run: about 25 miles, 30 to 40 minutes, $60 flat, door to door, both ways. Book your Savannah airport to Tybee Island ride before you pack the sunscreen, and land knowing a Savannah driver is already watching your flight. You will find me at the commercial curb by door D2, probably ready to tell you one thing about a brick fort whether you asked or not. Fair warning, and I mean it as a promise: the story is good. See you at the airport — the beach is waiting, and this time, getting there is the easy part.
